How AirCert works on a job

  1. On the unit

Scan the data plate iPhone & iPad

Photograph the nameplate. AirCert reads the make, model, serial, refrigerant and factory charge, and works out the manufacture date from the serial for eleven makes — so the record starts with the right numbers.

  2. At the manifold

    Leak rate

Both EPA calculation methods, worked from the full charge and the refrigerant you added — and it groups the pounds you added on Monday and Thursday into one leak event, the way the rule does.

  3. After

    Repair clocks

The 30-day repair window, both verification tests and the inspections that follow, each started on the right date and kept on your Home screen until it is done. Amber means late.

  4. On paper

    The record

Service records and the refrigerant log, signed on the screen and emailed to the customer as a US Letter PDF before you leave.

Everything AirCert does

Built for US HVAC/R contractors: the service paperwork you already fill in, plus the federal refrigerant rules most small firms have never had the time to work out.

Service records

Seven HVAC service records, filled in on site

Signed on the screen and emailed to the customer as a PDF before you leave, with your firm’s details on every one and your EPA 608 certification number on every service and refrigerant record.

40 CFR 84.106

Leak rate, every time you add refrigerant

Log what went in and AirCert works out the leak rate by either method the rule allows — annualizing or rolling average — with the 365-day cap most spreadsheets miss.

10% · 20% · 30%

The right threshold and the right rule

20% for commercial refrigeration, 30% for industrial process refrigeration, 10% for comfort cooling and everything else covered. It tells the AIM Act rule for HFCs at 15 lb from Section 608 for R-22 at 50 lb, and it won’t tell a residential AC technician a rule applies when it doesn’t.

Compliance clocks

Every federal deadline, started on the right date

The 30-day repair window (120 days if a process shutdown is needed), the initial and follow-up verification tests, the retrofit plan, quarterly or annual leak inspections and the chronic-leak report. Each clock stops when the rule says it stops.

Equipment register

A register that remembers every unit

Customers, sites, areas and every unit on them: nameplate, refrigerant, full charge and how that charge was established. Tap a unit to see which rule covers it, in plain English, with the citation.

Data plate scaniPhone & iPad

Scan the nameplate instead of typing it

Your phone reads the plate on its own, free, even with no signal. A scan token gets a fuller read — model, serial, refrigerant, factory charge in pounds and ounces, electrical ratings — with anything uncertain flagged for you to check. A scan that fails costs nothing.

Serial number decoderiPhone & iPad

Manufacture date from the serial number

Decoded for Carrier, Bryant, Payne, Goodman, Amana, Daikin, Trane, American Standard, Lennox, Rheem and Ruud, and marked as worked out, not read. Where a make’s serials can’t be decoded reliably, it says so instead of guessing.

Refrigerant log

The refrigerant log the EPA asks for

Every pound added and recovered against the unit it went into, with the leak rate at each addition — and top-ups on Monday and Thursday counted as one leak event, the way the rule does.

NFC · QRiPhone & iPad

NFC tags and QR labels on the unit

Stick a tag on the unit and hold your iPhone to it: the unit’s record opens, even with the app closed. A QR label does the same job wherever NFC isn’t to hand.

RemindersiPhone & iPad

Know what’s due before it’s late

Each site’s next service arrives as a reminder on your phone and can go straight into your calendar. Every open compliance deadline sits on the Home screen, and turns amber when it’s late.

TeamsiPhone & iPad

One register for the whole team

Invite your technicians. The owner subscribes and members are covered, with one shared register synced through iCloud. We never hold a copy of your records, and we can’t read them.

Offline · Backup

Works offline, and backs itself up

In a plant room, a crawl space or on a roof. Records save on the device and sync when you’re back in range, and a weekly backup to iCloud Drive can be restored if anything ever goes wrong. On Android, records stay on the phone and you can save a backup to Google Drive or your computer whenever you like.

Record keeping

Your records are never deleted

Stop subscribing and nothing is deleted: your records stay, read-only. The owner has to keep refrigerant records for three years, and we won’t be the reason one goes missing.

Plans and pricing

Pay monthly, or pay yearly and get two months free. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial. On Android, Solo is available now through Google Play, with the same 7-day free trial.

Questions HVAC/R contractors ask

What is AirCert?

AirCert is an app for US HVAC/R contractors, out now on iPhone, iPad and Android. It produces service records — maintenance, startup, heating safety, service calls and red tags — keeps a register of every unit on every site, and works out the EPA leak repair rules each time refrigerant is added: the leak rate, the threshold, and every deadline that follows.

Does the EPA leak repair rule apply to residential air conditioning?

No. Residential and light commercial air conditioning and heat pumps are exempt from the leak repair requirements in 40 CFR part 84, subpart C. Chillers and certain VRF systems are not in that exemption. Other refrigerant rules, such as technician certification and the venting prohibition, still apply. AirCert works this out for each unit.

What size of system does the 2026 rule start at?

A full charge of 15 pounds or more, where the refrigerant is an HFC or a substitute with a global warming potential above 53. From January 1, 2026 that replaced the 50-pound figure most technicians learned. Appliances that run only on an ozone-depleting refrigerant such as R-22 still fall under Section 608 at 50 pounds.

What are the refrigerant leak rate thresholds?

30% for industrial process refrigeration, 20% for commercial refrigeration, and 10% for comfort cooling and every other covered appliance. The 10% band is the catch-all, which is why it catches people out. Read the thresholds guide.

How is the leak rate calculated?

Every time refrigerant is added, by one of two methods: annualizing, which scales the pounds added by the days since the last addition (capped at 365), or the rolling average of pounds added over the past 365 days. Either is a percentage of the full charge, and one method must be used for every appliance at a facility. Try the free calculator.

How long do I have to repair a refrigerant leak?

30 days from the day refrigerant was added — not the day the leak was noticed — or 120 days where an industrial process shutdown is needed. An initial verification test must be done inside that window, and a follow-up test within 10 days of the initial test passing. Read the repair clock guide.

How long must refrigerant records be kept?

At least three years. An appliance that leaks 125% or more of its full charge in a calendar year must also be reported to the EPA by March 1 of the following year. Read the records guide.

Does AirCert work without a signal?

Yes. Records, the equipment register and the leak-rate math all work offline. On iPhone and iPad your phone also reads a data plate on its own with no signal, and everything syncs when you are back in range.

Does each technician need a subscription?

No. On iPhone and iPad, the owner subscribes to Team 5 (the owner plus four technicians) or Team 10 (the owner plus nine) and invites the team; members are covered. The firm’s register is shared through iCloud.

Where are my records stored?

AirCert has no account or login, and we never hold a copy of your records. On iPhone and iPad they are kept in your own iCloud account; the only thing that leaves your phone is a data plate photo when you choose a scan-token read. We do not keep it; OpenAI, which reads it, does not train on it and deletes it within 30 days. On Android they are kept on your phone, and you can save a backup to Google Drive or your computer.

Is there a free version?

The leak-rate calculator and the Unsafe Condition Notice (Red Tag) are free forever. On iPhone and iPad you also get 5 data plate scans free. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial, on iPhone, iPad and Android.

When can I get AirCert?

Now, in the United States: get AirCert on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, or on Google Play for Android.
